There he did many sketches and studied life and manners of local inhabitants. Later he has writen in one of his letter the following words: "I was born and was living in Russia more then 22 years. There I received all my education, I was always painting pictures of the Russian every day and fighting, life, so, according to all these indications I was considered myself the Russian painter."
In 1883 Roubaud graduated from the Academy of Arts with success. As a specialist in Caucasus Roubaud in 1886 received an order to create some pictures for the new Military and Historic Museum in Tiflis. He collected the materials for his battle paintings on the places where those battles happened. As a result he had painted 19 big pictures.
During the work on these serial of pictures the artist had the intention to create the Panorama "Taking by Storm the Fortress of Akhulgo", the village (aul) Akhulgo was the fortified residence of the Chechen Leader Shamil and was taken by storm by the Russian troops during the Caucasian Wars.
And he realized his plan in 1891 year. This his first Panorama was shown in Munich and Paris, then it was shown on the International Exhibition in Nizhny Novgorod (1896) and in Sebastopol (1909) and St.Petersburg (1911). Unfortunately this panorama has not remained till our days.
Among the most famous pictures of this period one may call The "Zaporogian (Ukrainian) cossacks attack in the steppe" (1881),"The Caucasian reconnaissance" (1885-1895), "Crossing over the mountain stream" (1885-1895) and others.
